About

Welcome! My name is Mike Scioli (one of several in the U.S.A). I will be your guide.

After four decades as a university instructor in the sciences, I reckoned that it was time to ‘retire’ to pursue other interests. I earn my living these days working in wood, hot metal, and performing structural welding and bolting inspection on steel in commercial buildings, large and small.

For several years before I retired, I went back to refresh my welding skills and learn a few new tricks via evening classes at Austin Community College. Along the way, I met future mentor and trusted friend, Dr. Warren R. Donworth, the most effective instructor that I have encountered. With his encouragement, I passed the American Welding Society’s national exam to become a Certified Welding Inspector under D1.1(2010) Structural Welding Code – Steel. At the same time, I tested to certify through the American Society for Nondestructive Testing as an Ultrasonic Testing technician, Level II.

I thoroughly enjoy what I do to earn my keep. Despite being away from higher education for a decade now, I still receive occasional requests for access to old material once available on various web pages on scioli.com and innervate.com.

Most of that content was lost to the web when the screw-ups at BurstNET [SPIT!] tried to migrate a server farm in the middle of a bankruptcy. As luck would have it, my server was ‘lost in transit’ … @#!#$!@!! Little had been archived in the Wayback Machine before it was lost.

Recently, I have been rooting through boxes of accumulated old paperwork and digital media and have found some of the frequently-requested items. I aim to restore them to this site and improve upon them as time permits.
